Rogers and Bell Announce Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Coming February 18 for $400

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is coming to Rogers and Bell – preorders started the other day at both Best Buy and the Future Shop, and starting today, you can preorder them directly on the carriers’ website.  The price will be $400 for a two-year term and $900 outright, with delivery of the device scheduled for February 18.  Much like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the Galaxy Note Edge offers all of the Note 4 features and adds a display that curves downward on the right side.  This can be used to accommodate anything from notifications to a stock ticker to the controls for the camera – whatever the app developer chooses to use the ‘edge’ for to help make the application more user friendly.

Many people have focused on the price, as it is the most expensive Android device to date – a full $100 more than the Galaxy Note 4 – but it is certainly not the most expensive device that these carriers are selling.  Those honors go to the new iPhone 6 Plus 128GB, which goes for an unheard of $595 on a two-year term…even the entry level iPhone 6 with 16GB is $375 on a two-year term.  The $400 Galaxy Note Edge, feature for feature, offers so much more than the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus.

The Galaxy Note Edge comes with a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED QHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 x 160 (edge) pixels and bearing 524 pixels-per-inch (PPI).  It is packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor clocked at 2.7GHz.  On the memory side, it has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with expansion possible via a microSD card slot.  The camera has been improved this year to a 16MP sensor with autofocus, a LED flash, Samsung’s own ISOCELL technology for low-light pictures, the ability to take live HDR shots and much needed Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Samsung even gave some attention to the 3.7MP front-facing camera (FFC) by giving it a 120-degree wide angled lens for capturing those group selfies or for a boardroom video chat.

The Galaxy Note Edge also has a 3000mAh battery that will get you through the entire day, as well as Samsung’s UPSM (Ultra Power Saving Mode) and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 to help you out when even more power is needed.  It has an IR Blaster, a full metal frame and trim, download booster, LTE Cat-6 capabilities, a fingerprint scanner, Heart Rate Sensor, UV and Oxygen Saturation Sensor. It also carries an S-Pen and adds all of those great features and software.
