Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Now Available on Verizon

Most people heard the rumors at IFA in Berlin that Samsung was going to show a smartphone with a curve display of some sort, but nobody was prepared for the announcement that it was ready for production.  While the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was available worldwide and a little sooner, it was announced that the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge was only going to select markets.  We knew that the Note Edge was coming to the four major US carriers, and as is the usual case, Verizon was the last to finally announce its availability – but it can now be ordered online or picked up in some stores for $399.99 on a two-year contract, $33.33 a month on Verizon’s EDGE program or simply $799.99 to buy it outright.  The selection is easy enough to do – the Galaxy Note Edge can be ordered with 32GB of internal storage and in our favorite color…black.  Whether other colors will eventually become available, it is a wait and see scenario.

The Galaxy Note Edge is the first smartphone to use a curve edge on the display.  It is part of the actual display, but operates independently from the flat display via its software.  The developers can us that ‘Edge’ to add controls, notifications, or other items that may enhance their application.  For instance, when using the Galaxy Note Edge to take photos, all of the controls can be found on the ‘Edge,’ leaving the main display strictly for your image with nothing to get in the way of your ‘view.’  Another use would be have your Galaxy Note Edge sitting on your conference or work desk, showing you notifications or stock prices without having to actually pick up the device to view them.  All of the Galaxy Note 4’s features are found in the Note Edge, as well as the S-Pen and all of the functions that enhance the Note series.

The Galaxy Note Edge sports a 5.6-inch Quad HD (QHD) Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 + 160) with 540 pixels-per-inch (PPI).  It uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor clocked at 2.7GHz, backed up with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot to add an additional 128GB of storage.  In the camera area we have a 16MP main shooter with autofocus, LED flash, OIS and ISOCELL technology that all combine for great photos.  The front-facing camera (FFC) is 3.7MP wide angle affair for excellent group selfies or conference video chats.  The battery is 3000mAh and it is running Android 4.4.4 KitKat with TouchWiz.
