So here’s a rumor that most people are not going to like. It looks like the Galaxy S6 is going to be featuring a smaller battery than the Galaxy S5 did. It’s rumored to be just a 2550mAh battery, which is about 250mAh smaller than the Galaxy S5’s battery. Now, Amongtech is saying that the battery will only last 4 hours. I’m not sure that is to be believed. But you can believe that the battery won’t last as long as the Galaxy S5. Especially if it really does have that QHD display.
It’s more than likely we’ll see some sort of fast charging solution for the Galaxy S6. Although it’s rumored to be using Samsung’s own Exynos chip this time around instead of Qualcomm’s, and we’ve heard nothing about their processor supporting quick charge. Looks like more and more people are going to be using that Ultra Battery saving mode that was announced with the Galaxy S5.
The rest of the specs for the Galaxy S6 look about where we expected them to be. With a 5.1-inch QHD display, 64-bit eight-core Exynos processor, 20MP camera with OIS on the back and a 5MP camera on the front. We’ve also heard that it might have 4GB of RAM. Which I still think is overkill in a smartphone, even 3GB in the Nexus 6 is still overkill as I always have more than a gigabyte free. We’re also looking at 32GB of storage to start out with, and a full metal body.
Let’s talk about that full metal body real quick. With the Samsung Galaxy Alpha, they used a smaller battery. A tiny 1800mAh battery inside that one. Which was my only complaint with the Galaxy Alpha. So perhaps this is why we are seeing a smaller battery on the Galaxy S6? Because metal is thicker and weighs more and they didn’t want the thing to be too heavy? Who knows. But we’ll find out at Mobile World Congress in early March.
