Samsung Galaxy Alpha

Samsung Galaxy Alpha Information:

After seeing tons and tons of leaks when it comes to a Samsung device made out of metal, this Korean tech giant has launched their first premium-built Android smartphone. Leaks haven't exactly been pinning top-notch hardware to this device, but despite that many people have expected this to be a high-end device and best that Samsung has done thus far, unfortunately that was not the case. Don't get me wrong though, this device is powerful enough but as far as specifications go, but not what some people thought it would be. As far as build goes, the metal definitely gives the device a premium feel.

Galaxy Alpha is sporting a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) Super AMOLED display along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of non-expandable internal storage. The device is powered by Samsung's very own Exynos 5 Octa 5430 octa-core processor (quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A15 and quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7) and Mali-T628 MP6 GPU. 12-megapixel camera can be found at the back of the device along with a LED flash while there's a 2.1-megapixel camera on te front of the device. Galaxy Alpha comes with Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS pre-installed with Samsung's TouchWiz UI on top of it, which you either love or hate it seems. 1860mAh battery is here to make sure your device lasts through the day and the device comes equipped with the usual array of sensors and connectivity options, this is also a 4G LTE capable device. TouchWiz UI brings a slew of Samsung's software solutions on the Galaxy Alpha, Multi-Window, AirView, S Health… and so on. Fingerprint scanner is also a part of the package.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha Editor Rating:

Galaxy Alpha is the first smartphone from Samsung which sports a metallic build. Many people have been complaining about the plastic materials (polycarbonate) Samsung has been using to build their phones, I personally always had more issues with TouchWiz UI than with Samsung's hardware build. That being said, the metal on the Galaxy Alpha truly does give the device a more premium look and feel and is definitely a step up for Samsung. I believe this is the right path for the company and I do hope they will continue moving in that direction, they do however need to do some serious revamp of their UI though. Galaxy Alpha is priced way to high in my humble opinion, it has a flagship price and it's simply not flagship material, despite being a really good phone.
