Excitement arises when we get a new smartphone – it’s like smelling the interior of a new car for the first time, but gradually that excitement wears off. Fortunately, when you own a smartphone, that excitement can be repeated…well, almost…when we get a software upgrade. I am not talking about going from 4.4.3 KitKat to 4.4.4 KitKat, although I must admit that when my Galaxy Note 3 received it the other night at 3AM, I sat up for a few minutes and watched it upgrade…we are talking about the excitement that reigns when you go from 4.4.4 KitKat to 5.0.1 Lollipop. That is real excitement – half of it is because you are finally receiving the upgrade and the other half is because you hope it doesn’t screw up your device – but it true excitement, none-the-less. It is always fun to live on the edge.
Those users on the TELUS network using their Moto X 2014 – remember, the original Moto X was a Rogers exclusive – are receiving their long awaited 5.0.1 Lollipop upgrade according to the Moto X forum, where TELUS made the announcement. There were many other Moto X owners on other networks still waiting for theirs. We knew from an earlier leak that the upgrade was ‘coming soon,’ but you never know what that means. TELUS did verify that the update was indeed the 5.0.1, so that takes care of a few bugs and improvements from the original launch, which always happens…look at iOS 8!
With TELUS pulling the trigger, we can expect other Canadian carriers to be offering the update very soon. Motorola has been good to their word about some of the fastest updates when compared to other manufacturers – only the original Nexus devices get them quicker. Motorola uses such a light UI that it is almost pure Android, making it much easier to apply the upgrades. Hopefully this will continue now that Motorola has become a Lenovo company.
Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know if you were one of the lucky ones that received your 5.0.1 Lollipop update on your Moto X 2014 and also if everything appears to be working properly. What are your impressions of the changes – are they for the better…as always, we would love to hear from you.
