LG is a company that’s been steadily rising in the Android space, from a company that many thought would ruin the Nexus 4 to a company that a lot of people can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next. Last year, LG released some stunning devices with it all culminating in the G3. The flagship device – as well as derivatives like the G3 Stylus and the G3 Beat – seem to have made a massive impact on LG’s smartphone sales. We knew that the company was riding high last year, but according to a report out of South Korea, LG’s smartphone sales could have grown as much as 25% in 2014, when compared to 2013.
The Korea Herald is reporting a 25% increase in sales year-on-year, as a direct result of strong sales from the G3 and similar devices in the G lineup. While Samsung’s sales dropped, it seems like LG are doing better than ever. Of course, there’s arguably an element of LG being the new kid on the block here, with LG being nowhere near as popular in 2013, while Samsung is the established giant. People looking for something fresh and new may well have turned to LG and the G3 as Samsung’s devices continued to use older designs and recycled features. According to the Korea Herald, LG’s smartphone sales for 2013 came in at 47.6 Million, with the figure for 2014 being 59.6 Million smartphones.
Regardless of whether or not that’s exactly 25%, it’s a sizable increase in sales. LG were smart with their G3 brand last year, creating one stand up flagship and trickling down certain features to more affordable models while still maintaining the brand qualities that customers were looking for. While we might not see much from LG until later this year where new models are concerned, it already looks like 2015 is going to be another great year for the company. Do you own an LG smartphone? If so, does this newfound success come as a surprise to you?
