If you watched the Xiaomi press conference last week then you may remember at one point during the show the Xiaomi CEO while on stage turned his back to the audience. Now this was not in a disrespectful way. In fact, it was quite the opposite. Lei Jun was turning his back on the audience as he was in the process of using the Mi4 to take a selfie of him and the audience. This was one of those moments where the audience lapped up the situation and greeted Jun with a round of applause.
Well, it now seems as though the selfie taken by Jun, was only a prelude to today’s announcement. Xiaomi today on their MIUI blog announced the start of their selfie contest. The rules are simple. Take a selfie and submit it to Xiaomi via the source link below. That said, there are some rules to the selfie. Firstly, the selfie must contain some reference to MIUI. This can be a product or toy or even just a handwritten MIUI sign. Secondly, the rules state that they will ‘prefer’ selfies which emulate Jun’s pose (in the image above).
So what will you win? Well, there are three prizes on offer. The first is a brand new Mi Box set-top box. Following on from this, you can also win a Mi Camera Lens accessory for your smartphone. Lastly, there is a Mi Bunny mascot up for grabs. The contest is live from today and will run until January 28th. At which point, on January 29th the top ten selfies (decided by votes up until that point) will enter the ‘Final Poll’. This final polling will consist of determining which of the ten between January 29th and February 2nd, generate the highest scores by the admin (50% of decision) and the biggest number of votes (50% of the decision). Then finally, on February 5th the winner(s) will be announced. Lastly, it is worth noting that the rules encourage users to promote for votes on various social media sites although ironically, you are prohibited from seeking votes on the MIUI forum. Doing so will result in disqualification. So, will you be taking a selfie and entering the competition? Let us know.
