Xiaomi Might Release A Snapdragon 615-Powered Handset Thinner Than 5mm

Xiaomi has already released one handset this year, the Redmi 2, which is a successor to the Redmi 1S and a really solid phone. This device is extremely affordable and yet it offers really solid specifications, it is one of the better mid-range devices out there and you’ll hardly find a better deal considering its price. That being said, this China-based company will release something else on January 15, it was confirmed. Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s CEO, confirmed a while back that the company will launch their new flagship handset in January, but it seems like they’re planning to release something else this month. The company has also already officially teased the launch of an extremely thin device on January 15 and it will allegedly be a new sub-brand.

Well, Xiaomi 2014910 (model number) paid a visit to TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC) and revealed a 2,000mAh battery, which seems fit for such a thin phone (similar to what Oppo R5 offered). Keep in mind that we still don’t have the specs or images of the phone considering this is documentation that we’re talking about, but the listing is expected to pop up soon. This strikes me as odd to be quite honest, I don’t see Xiaomi’s new flagship sporting a 2,000mAh battery, it just seems way too low. The Mi5 will be packed with specs and no doubt it will be a powerful phone, such a small unit would die real quick in a phone like that, so the chances are, this is not the Mi5, but some unknown device. I doubt we’re talking about the Redmi Note 2 either, that device is also expected to have a bigger battery on the inside. Xiaomi “Ferrari” (a codename probably) is being mentioned and the first evidence of its existence already popped up in a form of a benchmark (check it out below the article). The device will allegedly be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 chip and run Android 5.0 Lollipop.

I didn’t expect to see this, to be quite honest. Xiaomi’s CEO said that they’ll launch a flagship handset, so I’m expecting the Mi5 to be unveiled this month either way, but it seems like the company has something else to show us. I believe this will be a solid mid-range handset which will be extremely thin at the same time, like the aforementioned Oppo R5, and Vivo X5 Max for example. What do you guys think and would you be interested in such a device? I don’t see the point in such thin devices, they’re usually quite awkward to hold and their battery life isn’t the best, so they don’t really appeal to me personally.
