Last Friday, we received a tweet from HTC Canada that read: “Good news! #AndroidLollipop update is beginning its roll out to @Bell, @SaskTel, & @WINDmobile (M8) devices. Additional carriers soon.” While the HTC One M8 users on Bell, SaskTel and WIND Mobile have enjoyed their Android 5.0.1 Lollipop over the weekend, the wait is finally over for Rogers and TELUS customers. HTC’s Vice President of Product Development, Mo Versi, just confirmed this on Twitter – see our source link below and picture. Someone also asked him about the HTC One M7’s Lollipop update and he tweeted that “The HTC One (M7) update is also on its way soon, please stay tuned for updates on our social channels.” So, hopefully, they will not have to wait too long for their Lollipop as well.
This is great news as Lollipop makes its presence known as the new Android OS. With the older Jelly Bean still dominating the Android OS landscape at 44.5-percent, followed closely by KitKat at 39.7-percent, it is nice to see Lollipop, at 1.6-percent, finally starting to grow. There are advantages (and disadvantages) of having a more closed system like iOS – when an update goes out everybody gets to partake of it immediately – no waiting like with Android. It is such a shame that everybody (or most users) cannot experience the ‘sweetness’ of the new 5.0.1 Lollipop…still at only 1.6-percent.
Android 5.0 works on all size devices – from Wearables to Smartphones to Tablets to even our Cars – screens of all sizes. The songs, photos, apps and even recent searches can immediately be enjoyed across all of your Android devices so you never lose a beat. Its Material Design is a more fluid and purposeful motion with a more tangible interaction…touches are a more natural and intuitive. Google likes to say that with Lollipop, you will get the “right information at the right moment.” Lollipop also includes battery saving features that can extend your device up to 90 minutes and also has an accurate account of how much time is left on your battery before you need a charge, and when you are charging, how much time is needed for a full charge. It also offers more ways to secure your device and your personal data, better internet connectivity, lower Bluetooth consumption, and an overall faster, smoother and more powerful experience.
