While many devices and their owners wait for their respective manufacturers to finally roll out their long awaited Android 5.0 (Lollipop) updates, those at the forefront of Lollipop seem to have already moved on. This is in the way of what we now know to be Android 5.1, the next major(ish) update to Android Lollipop. Although, not hugely important to those who have yet to get the major update to 5.0, the 5.1 update will be of importance to those running Lollipop as it comes with a number of reasonably important bug fixes. Not to mention, it is also expected to come with a few features like Silent Mode, which were greatly missed by not being included in the first Lollipop cycle.
That said, there are very little details on when Android 5.1 will officially begin to roll out. That is, outside of Indonesia, as this was noted as one of the first places which seemed to be getting the 5.1 treatment. At the start of February, it was reported that not only was Android One finally making its way to Indonesia, but also that those devices in Indonesia seemed to be running on Android 5.1 out of the box. Following on from this, a few days later a second generation Moto G was also spotted running Android 5.1 in the wild. This led to some confusion as it was expected that the Nexus line of devices should be the first ones sporting any sort of update like this. As such, it was wondered what was happening with the Nexus range and 5.1 in general.
Well, if you are a Nexus owner then it looks like all might not be lost and indeed 5.1 might be en route to you. A Nexus 5 was this week spotted on Geekbench running on Android 5.1. Of course, such observations do not help to explain when Android 5.1 might reach the Nexus 5 (or any other Nexus device for that matter) but being seen is at least a step in the direction of assuming that it is in the pipeline.
