Rovio Announces New Match-3 Puzzle Game Called Jolly Jam Now Available For Android

Rovio isn’t just known for Angry Birds anymore, although you’d be hard pressed to find something that makes them more recognizable. If you are slightly over the Angry Birds craze but still enjoy titles that come from Rovio’s direction, then you may want to check out Jolly Jam, a new match 3 game coming from their Rovio Stars publishing arm. The game releases today and looks to feature some high definition graphics, complete with cutesy monsters and bursting, juicy fruit when you complete sequences of matched up items to rack up a high score your friends would be jealous of and could only dream of obtaining.

According to Rovio, there will be some sharing elements introduced into the game that will be key for helping you compete against your friends when playing Jolly Jam, so if you like playing online games Jolly Jam has some multiplayer stuff involved. The game is all about casual play styles but since it is Match-3 there are plenty of puzzle like elements to engage players as well. Gamers will find other things that Rovio is calling innovative to the Match-3 genre, like corner to corner color matching and power up prizes. The corner to corner color matching is an interesting concept as it appears to allow you to sort of tap and drag to highlight a large grouping of the items in each level to match them up. Rovio and the development team they’re partnering with to bring Jolly Jam to the masses have also included boss fights, which the user can complete by matching correct items to deplete the health bar of the boss.

There seems to be a near endless set of levels to play through so if you enjoy matching puzzles and acquiring high scores, this is worth a look. CEO of Magic Tavern Charlie Gu, says that they’re proud of Jolly Jam and that their “ambition was to create a new game play mechanic that brings something new, fresh and really enjoyable to  people who like pattern matching games.” Jolly Jam takes a heavy focus to the graphics and use of vivid colors to mesh together the pleasing feeling of pattern matching gameplay with appealing visuals.
