Saygus V2 Now Available For Pre-Order

We covered the Saygus V2 (V-Squared) smartphone earlier this year, which has been designed as a no-holds barred smartphone seemingly stopping short of telling would-be customers to accept no compromises. The V2 is based around a quad core, 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor assisted by 3 GB of memory, a 5.0-inch 1080p display and a 3,100 mAh battery, which Saygus claim will give “near 4,600 mAh battery life” thanks to some clever power saving technologies. There’s 64 GB of internal storage plus two MicroSD card slots that can each take up to 128 GB cards. Around the back there’s a 21 MP rear camera and a 13 MP front facer for selfies. It’s designed to include Qi wireless charging and built of exotic materials, including hardened Kevlar and brushed aluminum. Furthermore, the V2 has a fingerprint sensor and a new 60 GHz wireless standard for short range wireless beaming, typically home entertainment systems.

The company made the V2 available for pre-registration, which closed yesterday at 2359 hours Mountain Time; now the device is ready for pre-order. Early adopters who pre-registered may pre-order up to ten unlocked V2 devices at $549 each. These pre-ordered devices will come with an additional, spare, battery and a glass screen protector. If you didn’t pre-register, the normal price is $599. If you’re interested, you’d better be quick, though; the pre-order process is reckoned to last for just 72 hours.

This is a monster specification and ticks most boxes. Did I mention that the device has an unlocked bootloader, so if customers wanted to change the software on the device it’s relatively easy to do so. In addition to the headline specification above, Saygus have also polished various components: each camera is optically stabilized and there are two front facing speakers, which feature Harman Kardon audio technology. If we are to pick holes in the specification, perhaps readers will consider Saygus using a 32-bit, Snapdragon 801 processor a compromise compared with opting for the later Snapdragon 805 or holding out for the 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor? For my own eyes, a 1080p 5.0-inch display panel is absolutely fine as there’s very limited benefit in going to the higher resolution, 1440p (2,560 by 1,440 pixel resolution) at this size. The device will ship running Android 4.4.4 Kit Kat with plans to upgrade it to 5.0 Lollipop and we know it’s currently undergoing testing with Sprint and Verizon: Saygus is confident that the V2 will be available in the second quarter.

Are you interested in the V2? Did you pre-register and are you (or have you!) pre-ordered? If so, let us know how many you ordered and how excited you are to receive the device.
