Search Bar Update for Google Play now Rolling out, Via Server-Side Update

Here’s a sweet update coming out for Google Play, and you don’t even need an APK for it. Just yesterday we posted about the update to search on the Google Play Store app, where it was actually going to be a search bar at the top and uses the Hamburger flip style animation as shown above (and it looks nice!). It appears that it’s rolling out today, and it’s not an APK update either. It’s something that Google flipped on the server side to start rolling out. One of Google Play’s engineers, Kirill Grouchnikov, teased this update earlier this week, and many Android enthusiasts fell in love. As expected. Today Kirill said that it’s on it’s way out the door. I just checked both of the Android phones I have here and so far neither has the search bar.

The search bar now basically behaves the same as tapping on the search bar in Google Now. Where it flips down with your recent searches and a back key on the left side of the search box. It looks great, and more importantly it brings the user the same experience in more of Google’s apps using search. Now all they need to do is add this to the other Google apps like Google Play Music, etc., it works in all of the sections of the Google Play Store app, but not in the Google Play Music, Play Movies & TV, or Newsstand apps.

If you still have the magnifying glass on the right side of the toolbar you do not have the update. But if you have the full Google search bar at the top with the voice icon on the right, then you do have the update from Google. This could be another slow roll out, although we’re going to cross our fingers that it’s not one. But give it time to roll out. How many of you are excited to see the update on your smartphone or tablet? If you’ve already gotten the update let us know in the comments down below.
