It was recently reported that the OnePlus One will finally get to taste its version of Android 5.0 (Lollipop) starting this Friday, when the official OnePlus OS, OxygenOS sees its release. This will also be followed by the release of CM 12S on Monday for the One. So two new OSes landing within the next week for the much-loved device. However, that was not the only One OS news which emerged this month. Back at the start of March, an interesting report came through showing the One running a version of Sailfish OS.
For those new to Sailfish OS, this is a Linux based OS and is rather popular among users. However, it does lack compatibility with a wide enough variance of android devices. As such, the thought of running Sailfish on a OnePlus One will appeal to some users. Well, at the time, the image came directly from one of the folks over at Jolla (those behind Sailfish OS) with the attached ‘coming soon’ tag. Well, for those who were waiting. The time has come.
An alpha version of Sailfish OS for the One has now been released. This is an alpha version and as such will contain some bugs or defective aspects. For instance, it is already reported that the OS does not have a functional camera. Not to mention, there is an issue with the WiFi, while Android App Support is also a no-go. There also seems to be an issue with those installing Sailfish OS directly from One’s already running CM12. For those users, it seems to force a boot loop on CM12. That said, if you are still interested in giving Sailfish OS a go, then it is available to download and install now from the source link below. The OS needs to be installed via MultiROM and as such will act as a secondary ROM behind your current version of Cyanogen. If you are still unsure whether this is the right OS for you, then check out the video below which shows the type of content you can expect with a Sailfish OS running OnePlus One.
