ASUS ZenFone 2 High-End Smartphone to Arrive in Canada this April

ASUS unveiled its new ZenFone 2 lineup at CES early this month with no less than four models to choose.  Known for their budget-minded phones in the past, ASUS is also releasing a high-end device that is set to arrive in Canada the beginning of April.  ASUS is determined to make its name synonymous with smartphones in North America.  A well-known PC and laptop producer, ASUS produces some real value-added devices with good build quality.  ASUS has worked with AT&T in the US and moved into the hybrid phone-tablet realm with their PadFone 2, but this is the first smartphone in a while to make its way north to Canada.

ASUS is looking for a Spring launch in April – it will sell through its retail partners, such as Staples, Amazon or online.  It should be unlocked and will most likely sell in the $400 – $500 range for the most powerful model coming to Canada.  It sports a 5.5-inch Full HD (FHD) IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with 403 pixels-per-inch (PPI).  A 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz powers the device and a PowerVR G6430 chip is used for the GPU.  It is packing 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot for up to 64GB of additional storage.

The main camera is using a 13MP BSI sensor with autofocus and dual-tone LED Flash.  The front-facing camera (FFC) is a full 5MP and should provide an excellent selfie or video chatting experience.  It has a larger speaker on the back across the lower end of the device, and the volume switch is on the back under the camera lens – much like the LG models.  It has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, NFC and a microUSB port for charging the device and data transfer.  It includes a fast charging 3000mAh non-removable battery – 60-percent on a 30-minute charge.  It is running the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box with ASUS’ ZenUI on top.
