While the slow rollout of Android 5.0 (Lollipop) continues to the many manufacturer devices and carrier and regional variants, the Nexus lot of devices are continuing their onward march with the latest version of Android Lollipop, Android 5.1. Although, the rumors and speculation around Android 5.1 occurred long before the actual announcement and release of the update, about ten days ago, Google did finally announce the update and begin rolling out the OTA updates and factory images to the Nexus range of devices.
As per usual, this is a rather staged approach to updating, with different Nexus devices receiving their updates at different times. Not to mention, specific Nexus devices are also being staggered depending on their carrier. Google’s Nexus 6 was one of the first devices to see its update coming through and since it began being updated, the variant updates have been routinely coming through. For instance, there were two apparent builds which were both released for the normal Nexus 6 over the last few days, consisted of LMY47D and LMY47E. Not to mention, not long afterwards the T-Mobile build was reported as being rolled out as LMY47M.
In spite of being considered to be quite slow with updating, the latest news coming through is that the AT&T Android 5.1 update has now also began rolling out to the Nexus 6. At the moment, there is no official confirmation on this and instead the folks over at Android Guys (source link below) are reporting their AT&T Nexus 6 has seen its update land. By now, you should be well aware of the type of differences the latest Lollipop update will bring to your Nexus device, including more major bug fixes and performance improvements. Not to mention, the inclusion of a number of new features and security additions like ‘Device Protection’, HD voice calls and the reintroduction of LED light notifications. Of course, some things will not have been fixed in spite of popular demand including a more effective ‘Silent Mode’. Either way though, if you are running an AT&T Nexus 6 you might want to keep a look out for your update over the next couple of days.
