Earlier today, we noted that AT&T was rolling out the Lollipop update to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Now it appears that the Galaxy Note 3 is also joining in on the Lollipop party this afternoon. According to some Galaxy Note 3 users on AT&T, the update weighs in at a hefty gigabyte. You’ll want to be on WiFi to download this one. Once more, since it’s an AT&T update, you’ll need to be on WiFi anyways, and you can only check for an update once every 24 hours. So be patient. But if you own a Galaxy Note 3 on AT&T, it’s time to head to Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check for Updates. The build is said to be from February 28th. So it’s about a month old, and it’s likely that AT&T has been testing it for the past month.
So far, AT&T hasn’t updated their support documents just yet, but it appears that this is Android 5.0.2 that’s being released to the Galaxy Note 3. Additionally, it’ll bring a revamped UI. Similar to what the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 got in their updates. You may get silent mode, and you may not, in this update. Some of Samsung’s Lollipop updates have brought their own silent mode, which Google decided we didn’t need. While other Samsung Lollipop updates have decided to follow Google’s lead and forego the feature.
Lollipop brings a lot of other features too, some of the bigger ones is the compatibility with Android Auto, as well as better support for Android TV. Both of which work great with Android 5.0 and above. There’s also revamped quick settings and notifications. Now we don’t think that the version of Touchwiz that’s on the Galaxy S6 will be coming to the Galaxy Note 3, however we could be wrong. But looking back, Samsung hasn’t typically done that. There will be some tweaks to go with Lollipop though, which I think everyone will like.
If you own the Galaxy Note 3 on AT&T, and can’t pull down the update. Go ahead and find a Windows computer and install Kies. You can flash the update through Kies as well. It’s a bit more difficult, but it does work.
