Document Cloud is Adobe's Next Cloud Venture and It's All About the PDF

It might have taken Adobe a little longer than most, but the company has become one of the larger players when it comes to the enterprise cloud space. Their Creative Cloud suite has replaced traditional desktop applications for a lot of users, and it’s helped push those otherwise sceptical of mobile applications to pick up their smartphones and tablets more than they would otherwise. Recently, Adobe took the same strategy and applied to marketing, giving us Adobe Marketing Cloud and now, they’re launching Document Cloud, and it’s all about the PDF. Document Cloud is set to launch in the next few weeks and it looks like Adobe’s way of keeping the PDF relevant, oh, and Acrobat is getting a huge update, too.

Document Cloud will be a way for users to keep important PDFs organized, safe and secure for access at the office, at home or on the move. This might seem a strange move considering Dropbox and Drive handle PDFs as well as anything else we want, but the PDF is still a huge deal for the print industry and beyond. After all, a PDF is the one surefire way to guarantee someone on the other end can open and see your document as you intended. Document Cloud will be available in the next few weeks for $15 a month, unless you have a Creative Cloud subscription and it’ll be included at no extra cost.

Adobe Acrobat, the app that we’ve been using for years to make sure we see PDFs the way they’re supposed to be seen is getting a big update, too. Acrobat DC is the name of the new app and it’ll become much more touch-friendly on smartphones and tablets along with an update to eSign, a method to digitally sign forms and letters. Adobe is said to be launching a pair of new apps to better interact with the Document Cloud as well. You can take a look at Adobe’s new vision for handling PDFs in the cloud down below and we’ll have more when the service launches in the next few weeks.
