Gmail For Android Update Includes Unified Inbox For Outlook And Yahoo As Well As Other Features

There are many app updates which offer users a significant improvement, while there are those that do not really affect many users. For instance, it was only last week that it was reported, users will soon be able to pay their bills directly from Gmail. Whether this one is the former or the latter for you, will depend highly on how often and how you use Gmail. For those users who have not migrated over to Inbox by Gmail as of yet and are still firmly in the Gmail camp, then it looks like there is an update en route to you and this update may have been one you have been waiting on for a long time. Especially, if you also use a number of other email clients like Yahoo and Outlook too.

Today, Google announced an update which in reality is a big one and one which has been a long time coming. The main and undoubtedly headline point of the update is that Gmail users can now use the android app to access mail from all inboxes regardless of the email client. So if you use one email address for work, one for business, one for friends or just like having multiple email clients, then you can now receive all your inboxes via Gmail. Not to mention, in one unified inbox. The aptly named “All Inboxes” is where you will find your newly included other email address emails (including those from yahoo and Outlook), all as though they were part of your normal Gmail inbox. As well as the basic inclusion, the announcement from the Gmail team (source link below) also states that the additional email accounts will be able to take advantage of ‘Conversation view’. This is where relative conversation emails are stacked together in one thread resulting in a much easier reading and finding ability.

As well as the bigger All Inboxes aspect, the announcement post did state that there are some minor additional elements to the update as well. These include a faster and more relevant search function and also the ability to view larger views of attachments when looking through emails. Google did not specifically detail when the update will begin rolling out, although the “Starting today” comment in the announcement does suggest you should be seeing the update land for your Gmail app, sooner rather than later.
