Hangouts is one of the Google tools and services which seems to be updating well over recent times. The communication tool is ever-evolving and offers those who use it, a great way to interact and stay in touch with each other. Well as part of Google’s weekly updates, Hangouts seems to be one of those currently in the process of being updated taking the version from 2.5 up to 3.0.
Now, most of the features are generally not highly noteworthy and in fact, the original announcement about the update sent out by Dennis Kiilerich on Google+ also does not allude to too much happening beneath the scenes. In fact, according to Kiilerich, this update is mainly consisting of only small bug fixes and performance improvements “Since our last release, our main focus has been to improve stability and performance and we’ve addressed lots of the feedback and suggestions that we get from you!” That said, there does seem to be one interesting feature which is worth pointing out.
It seems the way contact cards are displayed has been changed and updated to be much more informative. Now when you click on a contact (typically in a message) and their contact card pops up, the new style is far more attractive and consists of far more information. For instance, the new cards seem to display more contact details for the person and interestingly, also includes links to their most recent Google+ posts. Not to mention, the contacts Google+ photos are also now visible from within the Hangouts apps. In fact, the whole thing is rather reminiscent of what was noted yesterday when Google announced a Google Contact update rolling out to desktop Gmail users. It seems, improving contact information across Google products, apps and services is certainly on the agenda for Google. You can see how the new look contact cards appear in the images below. The roll-out is currently in progress so don’t worry if it takes some time making its way to you. Otherwise, grab an updated copy now from the Play Store by clicking here. Either way, let us know what you think of the new updated contact information.
