When Asus announced their newest Zenfone lineup at CES 2015 back in January we knew it was going to be something special. The announcement itself was for a handful of different models, all tailored to different price ranges and spec lists, but all of them being ultra affordable when compared to many high-end phones out there. At the top end of the spec list for Asus new lineup is the Zenfone 2 ZE551ML model which features a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 chipset running at 2.3GHz as well as a brand new PowerVR Rogue G6430 GPU. 4GB of RAM on board makes this the first phone to launch with such a spec, and this is pretty incredible considering that it only costs around $320. For those keeping track that’s less than half of the price of other high-end specced phones like the Galaxy Note 4 and Google Nexus 6.
While the Zenfone 2 doesn’t officially launch in China for another handful of days, ePrice was able to get ahold of one early and benchmark it for all the world to see. What we see showcased is the power of Intel newest chipset and Imagination’s newest GPU, giving us performance that’s neck and neck with the best on the market right now. As you can see from the benchmark results below many different tools were used including the ever-popular AnTuTu, Geekbench 3, 3DMark and a few others as well. All of these show that Asus latest flagship competes handily in every test with the fastest from Samsung, LG and Google among others.
What’s also interesting is seeing the Zenfone 2 running on 32-bit Android even though the kernel is 64-bit and the processor is 64-bit. Why Asus chose this path isn’t known yet but it’s likely that there could have been some compatibility issues with software or something similar causing them to go with 32-bit Android 5.0 Lollipop instead. Asus recently released a highlights reel showcasing everything you’re getting out of the box with the Zenfone 2, and it’s a pretty incredible bang for your buck. Asus has really gone for the throat here with the Zenfone 2 and will be launching the phone in more countries coming this April.
