Karbonn's Android One Sparkle V Begins Receiving Android 5.1 Lollipop

Proud owners of the Karbonn Sparkle V, an Android One device released in India have started to receive the update to Android 5.1 Lollipop earlier today. The update for some likely started much earlier this morning while other had yet to see the OTA push out to their phones. Updates to newer versions of software also take time so not everyone ends up getting the new software builds immediately. While some users in the Sparkle V’s main market may have gotten it earlier this morning, those who gotten a hold of and use the device here in the states may just now be starting to see the update.

Android One devices like the Karbonn Sparkle V were already on Android Lollipop some time ago, so the bolder use if vibrant colors and lively animations laden throughout the UI are nothing new, but Android 5.1 does bring in some notable new features that users of the Sparkle V and other Android One devices will be able to take advantage of, like Dual-SIM support, improve quick settings toggles for WiFi and Bluetooth, and some minor changes to the unlock screen. The update is coming down over-the-air automatically although if you use a Sparkle V here in the U.S. and you haven’t yet been notified that the update is available for download, you can always manually check the updates status by going into settings and navigating to the “about phone” menu and hit the software updates button. This will tell you whether or not your phone is up to date.

While Android 5.1 Lollipop does bring in a few new features that the Sparkle V will be able to utilize, the update is not a large one compared to the size of Android 5.0, and it also focuses on bringing in some much need bug fixes and improvements, although the infamous memory leak issue, if present for any Sparkle V users, has still not been issued a public fix by Google just yet. The good news is that Android 5.1 should fix random app crashes if users are experiencing them. Android 5.1 also introduced the new Device Protection feature although it’s unclear if the Karbonn Sparkle V will able to take advantage of it. If you haven’t gotten your update yet, as stated above you can do a manual check from the settings menu.
