Google has released the newest version of their operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop, back in October. Many smartphone manufacturers have already started pushing the newest update to some of their devices, though there are still many OEMs that haven’t done so. Meizu belongs in the latter category, though it seems like this China-based smartphone manufacturer intends to do so soon, at least according to Head of Flyme, Yang Yan.
The company has already revealed that they’re working on the Lollipop update for their devices back in November last year, but we didn’t hear much from the company since then (regarding the update). Flyme’s Chief Designer has stated that they will do their best to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop by the end of March. He was unable to provide the exact time frame though, because the development is still in progress and it all depends on how things go from here, but it seems like they’re wrapping things up at this point.
Flyme’s Chief Designer didn’t reveal which devices will receive the update first, but we did receive news last month saying that Meizu MX4 and Meizu MX4 Pro could be the first in line. This makes all the sense in the world considering these two devices are the company’s more powerful handsets at this point. It is quite possible that Meizu M1 Note and Meizu M1 will follow soon though, both of those handsets should be able to handle Lollipop without a problem.
These are great news for the owners of Meizu devices, you can expect the update to start rolling at the end of this month, or at least in the first half of next month. It is currently unknown what effect will this have on the design of Flyme, but I’m sure some screenshots (or something similar) will leak soon, we’ll make sure to let you know if that happens before the rollout officially begins. That being said, let us know if you own a Meizu-branded device, and if you’re looking forward to the Android Lollipop update. Leave a comment and tell us what you think, we’d love to hear from you, as always.
