Google has announced their first phablet, the Nexus 6, back in October last year. That device comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop pre-installed, and considering the fact that Google has unveiled the Android 5.1 version quite recently, many Nexus 6 users are eagerly awaiting for the update to hit their device. Well, if you’re one of those users, you’re going to be happy to hear that the update will probably hit your device quite soon. Sprint’s support pages say that the Android 5.1 software update (build number LMY47D) will start rolling out to Nexus 6 handsets today, March 11th. If accurate, this information is not limited to Nexus 6 Sprint users, of course, this is a Nexus device after all. If this information is accurate, the update will start rolling out to all Nexus 6 devices today, though keep in mind that Google rolls out their updates in waves, so it might take a while before the update hits your particular device.
The Google Nexus 6 features a 5.96-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440) AMOLED display along with 3GB of RAM for all your multitasking needs and 32 or 64GB of non-expandable internal storage. This phablet is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor clocked at 2.7GHz which comes along with an Adreno 420 GPU for graphics processing. On the back of this phablet, you’ll find a 13-megapixel OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) camera while there’s a 2-megapixel shooter located up front. The Nexus 6 comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop pre-installed, while a non-removable 3,220mAh battery is also a part of the package here. Google’s phablet measures 159.3 x 83 x 10.1mm and weighs 184 grams while it comes with 4G LTE connectivity.
There you have it folks, according to Sprint’s support pages, Google will start rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to Nexus 6 devices today. Once again, keep in mind that it might take some time until the update hits your device, because it doesn’t roll out to all devices at the same time / same day. That being said, let us know when the update comes your way, we’d love to hear what you have to say about it.
