We’ve reported quite recently that Xiaomi plans to open up shop in India, the company is currently selling their devices through Flipkart, but that might change soon. A new report came our way today, saying that Samsung and Sony are planning to do the same thing in that Asian country which is becoming more and more popular these days. A lot of smartphone manufacturers have started offering their devices in India (the second biggest smartphone market in the world) last year, and it seems like many of them intend to manufacture their devices there.
According to the report, both Samsung and Sony have announced that they’ll start manufacturing devices in China. This could open a lot of jobs in that Asian country and be extremely beneficial for the industrial progress over there. This is also a big endorsement of the Make in India initiative which was launched by PM Modi to encourage manufacturing in India. The main purpose of this initiative was to attract major global companies to start manufacturing in India, and it seems to be working.
According to reports, Samsung is in talks with UP Government to start manufacturing smartphones and tablets in India. The Head of Samsung’s Mobile division, J.K.Shin will visit India soon in order to push this plans through. Samsung’s spokesperson was unable to provide details regarding all this, but did say the following: “However, we can confirm that we are in talks with state governments, including the government of Uttar Pradesh, where we have a factory already.”
We recently reported that Sony plans to fire 1,000 people in Sweden, and it seems that they intend to open up shop elsewhere. After announcing that they’ll leave the Chinese market, Sony plans to open up shop in India. Head of Sony’s Indian operations said during MWC that the company plans to launch the Indian manufacturing unit ‘very soon’, and added the following: “Sony is looking at India for long-term growth. While no decision has been made yet, the potential products for manufacturing in India could be both flat-panel televisions and smartphones.” Much like J.K.Shin, Sony’s President, Kazuo Hirai, is expected to visit India soon as well.
