If you are thinking about signing up with Fido, today is your lucky day – Rogers and the streaming music service, Spotify, have teamed up to give new Fido customers a FREE 24-month subscription to Spotify Premium. Fido customers will be treated to unlimited downloading anytime and anywhere of Spotify’s vast streaming library of over 30 million songs. Raj Doshi, who’s the top dog at Fido said, “We know our customers love to stream music and Spotify is the obvious choice for us.” Michael Abbattista, from Spotify said, “We’re excited to be in Canada, and working with Rogers allows us to reach millions of mobile Canadians.”
Rogers just went through their own rebranding to update their logo and shortly after that, Rogers’ owned Fido is in the process of rebranding itself and is going after the millennial market to attract the younger demographics. This new rollout should be done by the end of May as Fido tries to capture those that grew up with technology their entire lives. The older generation used to turn on a radio to listen to music, but the millennials – those born in the early 80’s to the early 2000’s – are not afraid to download or stream their music. Streaming music in Canada is on the rise – more than half of the Canadians between the ages of 18 to 34 regularly stream music to their mobile devices. The statistics are going up around the globe with over 6 billion songs streamed in just the last six months of 2014.
As far as using your existing data, our sources said, “We’ve confirmed that there will be no zero-rating, the act of exempting the data from a service or website from a customer’s monthly data allotment, so the deal is merely a value-add to an existing Fido deal.” There is nothing spelled out, but it does appear that any Fido customer will be able to take advantage of this great deal.
