LG’s CES offering this January was the newly-redesigned G Flex 2, with the first showing of the Snapdragon 810, whose existence stirred up the rumors of overheating mid-use. LG’s typical flagship line, the G series, has been one of interesting innovation, with the G2 being the first to adopt the now-expected back-mounted volume and power buttons, as well as the smooth plastic build. The G3 featured the first globally available QuadHD 2560 by 1440 pixel display on a smartphone, as well as the first instance of laser-assisted auto-focus on a smartphone. The G4, which has been rumored left and right, from model numbers to specifications, has been shown off in hypothetical renders of both the front and back. But, we got a look at some cases that claim to be for the still-secret G4 via Weibo.
The cases, shown off through Weibo, show off a bland color or grey and black, but the important part is the ports. The cases, shown from the bottom and the back, give us a good look at some of the orientations of various ports and thing around the G4. We can see the MicroUSB port centered along the bottom, next to what is likely a headphone and main microphone socket. The headphone jack being along the bottom will allow for a thinner top edge for the G4, if this is accurate. The back features the expected camera, flanked on either side by the flash and laser-focus apparatuses. The bottom of the back features the also-expected speaker grill slit. Under the camera is the space for the buttons, but it seems slightly larger than in previous iterations, so it could be either the device or the case that is slightly bigger or wrong.
The G4 will, as previously been rumored, will have the same display resolution, a whopping 2560 by 1440 pixels, paired with LG’s newly-revised Lollipop-topping of their overlay skin on top of Android 5.1. The phone will launch globally, and it might even feature a little curvature in design. That is, if some renders are to be believed and trusted. It’ll obviously feature the latest processor, likely the Snapdragon 810 with 3 GB of RAM to back it up, as well as a 13 megapixel camera and improved laser auto-focus mechanism. This device should be great to see, especially if LG has changed anything about the G line from iteration to iteration like it has in the past.
