As the April 10 release date draws near, pricing and live pre-orders for the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are springing up like a wild fire. Sprint has joined the group and you can now order your pick of the litter, as long as it is White Pearl or Black Sapphire. Pricing on the standard 32GB model is surprisingly the same as the Samsung Galaxy S5 sold for last year, $199 on a two-year contract.
Sprint lists the pricing for the Galaxy S6 as follows: a 32GB model will cost you $199.99 on a two-year agreement and $480 if you go with the $0 down and 24 payments of $20. The 64GB model will cost you $299.99 on a two-year contract or $600 with $0 down and 24 payments of $30. The 128GB model Galaxy S6 will cost you $399.99 on a two-year contract or $720 with $0 down and 24 payments of $30.
For now, Sprint is offering the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge only in two variations – a 32GB model will cost you $299.99 on a two-year contract or $0 down and 24 payments of $25 for a total of $600. The 64GB variant will cost you $399.99 on a two-year contract or $0 down and 24 payments of $30 for a total of $720. There is no 128GB Galaxy S6 Edge version listed as an option – it could be a special order or possibly Sprint does not feel the 128GB version would be popular enough to stock.
Samsung really needed this year’s Galaxy S6 models to sell, after the less than stellar sales performance of last year’s Galaxy S5 model. The new Galaxy S6 models appear to be so popular that analysts are now predicting that Samsung may sell up to 55 million devices and Samsung is now looking for more capacity to produce more of the Galaxy S6 Edge displays, which is proving to be very popular even with the extra $100 in cost.
The Galaxy S6 comes with a 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 with 577 pixels-per-inch (PPI). It uses Samsung’s own 64-bit Exynos 7420 processor with 3GB of DDR4 RAM and their new UFS 2.0 Flash Memory – both memories are much faster than the older kind. The new camera offers up 16MP with autofocus, LED Flash, OIS, ISOCELL technology and a wide f/1.9 lens with Live HDR shooting. The front-facing camera (FFC) is a full 5MP and comes with the wider f/1.9 lens, 120 degree wide-angle lens for great group selfies or video chats as well as the Live HDR and ISOCELL technology for great shots in low-light.
