Samsung Renewing Focus on Low-End Smartphone Market

One of the things that has made Samsung so successful is the fact that they don’t release just one or two phones a year. While we might complain about the number of phones that they do announce each year, they are selling, which is what is important to a company like Samsung. While Samsung has turned to a higher build quality with their flagship Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, they aren’t just focusing on the high-end. But also the low end. Samsung has recently seen some tough competition when it comes to low-end and even mid-range smartphones. Primarily from Motorola with the Moto G and Moto E. But there’s also the trouble they’ve had in China with all these Chinese manufacturers making smartphones for next to nothing.

A report coming out of The Korea Herald this morning, Samsung is looking to boost the global sales of their low-end smartphones. So they can keep their market share position and even take it back from Apple, since Apple did rise back to number one with the iPhone 6/6 Plus launch. Samsung has been rolling out it’s cheapest 4G LTE smartphone in the Netherlands, and Germany. We’re talking about the Galaxy J1 here. This is expanding their target countries to Europe, instead of just keeping them for emerging markets in Asia. On the other side of the equation, Samsung has also expanded their Galaxy A and Galaxy E series of devices into China and India. Which formerly, was only in Europe. Analysts think that this move is to gain market share, and I’d say they are completely right.

Samsung should focus on bringing their low-end and mid-range stuff over to the US as well. We’ve seen how popular these cheaper phones have been here in the past year or so, especially with Motorola’s Moto G and Moto E. If they bring over the Galaxy J1, I do think it’d do pretty well, especially if sold on Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, or Cricket. How many of you would buy a decent, low-end smartphone from Samsung?
