I don’t know if you recall, but Samsung Xcover 3 handset leaked back in January, and we haven’t heard anything about it since then. Samsung has announced the company’s newest flagships in the meantime, and it was just a matter of time when the company will release a new member of their Xcover family. Well, that just happened, this Korea-based tech giant has unveiled yet another Android-powered device, the Samsung Xcover 3, read on.
Samsung’s Xcover series brings to the table ruggedness that most of the Samsung Galaxy-branded devices don’t have. This device comes with MIL-STD 810G certification, which essentially means that the device is shockproof when dropped from up to 1.2 meters. The IP67 certification is also here for water and dust resistance, you can take the Xcover 3 up to 30 meters below the water without damaging it. As you can see, the device looks quite rugged too, and it’s full of physical buttons. Power / lock button is located on the right side of the device, volume rocker is on the left and as you can see, overview, home and back on the front side.
This handset features a 4.5-inch 800 x 480 display along with 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable internal storage, and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor. The source doesn’t list who is the manufacturer of this chip, but it’s quite probably Qualcomm, the company’s Snapdragon 400 or 410 are quite probably under the hood here. 5-megapixel camera is located on its back, and a 2-megapixel shooter can be found up front. Android 4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed on this device with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top of it, and a 2,200mAh battery ships with this device. Samsung Xcover 3 supports NFC and KNOX, and as far as connectivity goes, it supports 4G LTE frequencies on bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 20.
This device is certainly now for everyone, but there are people who appreciate such rugged devices, and there’s definitely a demand for such devices out in the market.
