For some time now, we’ve been hearing about new Android tablets from Samsung, specifically the Galaxy Tab A and the Galaxy Tab S2 line of tablets. Yesterday, we heard some more about the Galaxy Tab S2 and today, Samsung has gone ahead and announced the Galaxy Tab A pair of Android tablets in Russia. These are budget affairs and both of them feature 4:3 aspect ratios a la the Nexus 9. Both tablets share common DNA and it’s interesting that these have been announced quietly at a press event in Russia rather than worldwide, but we’re sure Samsung have their reasons. A global launch is more than likely right around the corner, but in the meantime let’s take a look at what makes these tablets so special.
The Galaxy Tab A will be available in either 8.0-inch or 9.7-inch versions and both will sport 1024 x 768 resolutions. Under-the-hood appears to be a Snapdragon 410 clocked at 1.3 Ghz with 1GB of RAM. There’s 16GB of expandable storage here and they both share a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera as well as a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It’s said that the 8.0-inch model features a 4,200 mAh battery that lasts for roughly 8 hours, with something similar on the 9.7-inch model. Both devices are roughly 7.5mm thick and completely built using plastic, aside from the glass display, of course. Samsung’s latest version of TouchWiz appears to be running on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop here as well. Curiously, it’s noted that the 9.7-inch version has two speakers, yet isn’t capable of stereo sound. The tablets will be available in either white, blue or gray and cost roughly €300 or so when they go on sale, shortly.
These Android tablets appear to be budget-minded versions of the Galaxy Tab S line and they’re both launching with 4:3 aspect ratios, which could mean that they’re following Google’s example with the Nexus 9. What else is different about these tablets remains to be seen as of writing as they’ve just been announced in Russia. Hopefully, an English announcement will be along shortly, but for now you can take a closer look in the gallery below.
