T-Mobile CEO Tweets Uncarrier Teasers Before March 18th Event

Word of T-Mobile’s Uncarrier event tomorrow has been floating around since nearly a couple of weeks ago, but through a series of tweets beginning last week, (which is usually CEO John Leger’s preferred medium for dropping hints, discussing changes, or teasing rival CEO’s) John Legere has been teasing what tomorrow’s Uncarrier event will include, which apparently is a blow torch. The short video posted yesterday on Leger’s timeline lasts only 11 seconds and gives nothing away, so we will have to wait till tomorrow’s event before we know more about the whole blow torch thing, and how it all plays into the next phase of Uncarrier efforts.

Whatever T-Mobile’s plans are for Uncarrier strategies moving forward after tomorrow though, it’ll be a “real piece of work” according to Legere. Past Uncarrier efforts have introduced us to the arrival of Music Freedom and an enhanced JUMP! program, as well as initial arrival of JUMP!. Other past Uncarrier strategies included the ability to test drive a device on the T-Mobile network for a full week, which would be shipped out to interested would-be customers for the period. T-Mobile also allowed customers to take those devices back into a local retail store where they could set service up if they ended up liking the way things worked.

It will be hard to gauge exactly what T-Mobile has planned for the next phase of Uncarrier, as sometimes the changes are monumental and other times they’re small, incremental adjustments to the service and offerings. In addition to yesterday’s tweet where it shows Legere turning on the blow torch, there are at least four other tweets that he put out (which seemed to be going out once a day) that all focus on tomorrow. One Tweet has Legere directing the set up for the event stage as he yells into a bullhorn to “add more magenta,” and another tells people to “get ready to do some Uncarrier work” as something BIG is coming on March 18th. One thing is certain, T-Mobile is no stranger to hyping up its service changes through these Uncarrier strategies, and it won’t be long before we find out if the hype is well worth the wait this time.
