Xiaomi's Alleged Mi Pad 2 Leaks, Said To Have Metal Body And Glass Back

Some new images of the alleged second tablet coming from Xiaomi, the Mi Pad 2 have just leaked today, which could give consumers a potential look at what the tablet may look like when and if Xiaomi finally releases it. If these images are actually showing a build of the Mi Pad 2 it looks to be a smaller device, perhaps in the 7-inch to 8-inch screen size range, which would line up with the rumor that it would come with a 7.9-inch screen. These pictures look drastically different from the alleged leaks that were seen back in December of 2014 which supposedly showed off the upcoming tablet’s specifications, as this new tablet carries a white body and appears to be much closer to a final design than what was leaked a few months ago, which displayed a black tablet.

Although the picture is too small to gather any details on the exact version of the UI running on this device, the source claims that it is running on Xiaomi’s latest software version which is MIUI 6, and the suggestion is made that it could be running on Lollipop, which if true, would be Xiaomi’s first official device running on a MIUI build based on the latest Google software. Little is actually known about the Mi Pad 2 at this point, at least officially, but if Xiaomi intends to upgrade the hardware and software from what’s included in the original Mi Pad, which was also the company’s freshman tablet, then it’s possible that the Mi Pad 2 could come with an upgrade from the NVIDIA Tegra K1 to the NVIDIA Tegra X1 processor that was just unveiled at CES 2015 back in January, although there is no evidence to support this and is merely speculation. The leaked specs from December mention that Xiaomi would be forgoing the use of an NVIDIA chip this time around and instead choosing to place an Intel Atom processor inside.

The original Mi Pad also housed 2GB of RAM, so Xiaomi could choose to stick with that or update their second tablet to 3GB to be more in line with some of the other mobile device offerings, it’s worth noting though that the leak from December pegs the Mi Pad 2 as having 2GB of RAM just like the original Mi Pad as well as 16GB of storage space. According to the source, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 also has a glass back and a metal frame, suggesting that Xiaomi is opting for more premium materials for their second tablet. Along with the leaked image of the tablet’s display, there is also an image that is claimed to be the frame of the Mi Pad 2 (shown below) which does appear to be made of metal, although the image isn’t clear enough to make that distinction with certainty.
