You Can Now Grab The Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA Download For The Nexus 6

The time has come for Google’s latest Nexus smartphone to join the ranks of Android 5.1 Lollipop. Surprisingly, when Google announced Android 5.1 and started uploading the factory images for compatible Nexus devices, things were limited to the Nexus 5, Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 2012 WiFi only model. For the factory images, this is still the case. Luckily for those three devices as well as the Nexus 6 now, the OTA download packages are now available to update those four devices to Android 5.1 Lollipop so users can take advantage of the new features and benefits.

The Nexus 6 will have a few things coming its way like HD voice calling and new lockscreen features, as well as Device Protection, allowing users to call in and alert their carrier if their device is lost or stolen, which then puts their device into a locked state that can only be unlocked if the device receives a Gmail login from the correct account. As this is here to make the device more secure, the lock persists through a factory reset on the device. We’re still waiting for OTA downloads for the Nexus 7 2013 in both Wifi and LTE models, as well as the Nexus 7 2012 LTE model, and the Nexus 4, and of course the Nexus 9, although the Nexus 9 could very well end up showing up here soon. Since this an OTA download link and the package is not actually coming to your Nexus 6 over the air if you grab the OTA from the link in this article, then that means you’ll have to sideload the OTA onto your device. If you’re not familiar with that process, you can find a nice little tutorial on how to do so here, or you can simply wait for the update to hit your device over-the-air on its own. You can grab the OTA download file for the Nexus 6 just below.
