Acer Announces a new Addition to the Chromebook 15 Line – Coming in at just $199!

Did you think the Chromebook 15 was too expensive? Well Acer has just announced a third variant of the Chromebook 15 in the CB3-531, which comes in at a price of just $199. Say what? This model still has a 15.6-inch display, although it is 1366×768 in resolution instead of 1080p like the original 15-incher. Additionally, it’s powered by the Intel Celeron N2830 dual-core processor. We also have 16GB of SSD storage paired with 2GB of RAM.

“Our Acer Chromebook line has been pleasing customers and winning awards since we introduced the first model in 2011,” said Jerry Kao, president of Acer Notebook Business Group. “The new model is a homerun for an important segment in the market – people who want a large 15.6-inch display Chromebook and long battery life at a price that fits in a limited budget. The capabilities and ease-of-use of the Acer Chromebook 15 CB3-531 make it a great choice for families, seniors, and anyone who wants to enjoy the many benefits of Chrome on a large display.”

The Chromebook 15 CB3-531 also uses Chrome OS, as you’d expect, which is beginning to be a pretty popular OS these days. Having Chrome OS means that the Chromebook is going to be secure, as well as providing some pretty spectacular battery life. We’re looking at about 11.5 hours of battery life here, as Acer is quoting. it also features fast 802.11 ac WiFi, which makes getting work done even easier.

Acer also announced that availability will begin in July for North America with a price tag of $199. It’ll be launching in Europe in June with prices starting at €249. This Chromebook will be available from Acer.com, Amazon, Best Buy and other retailers where Acer products are already sold.

We reviewed the Acer Chromebook 15 earlier this month. And we were quite impressed with the Chromebook. We’d say it’s the best 15-inch Chromebook out there, but it’s actually the only one out there right now. The speakers on either side of the keyboard are probably some of the best I’ve used on a laptop, netbook or Chromebook. They were seriously that good.
