For the last couple of months, it has been widely speculated that ASUS was planning on launching a new wearable, dubbed the ASUS VivoWatch. Well, today the company took the wraps off of the device and officially announced the wearable in London. The launch of the device has not come as too much of a surprise as the device had been reported on quite recently. However, as it has now been confirmed, there are a few more details which can be shared. First thing, this is not an Android Wear device and instead runs on a separate operating system. However, it does work with a number of android devices. Although, it does need to be pointed out that it does not work with all android devices. Instead, it seems to be compatible with the latest wave of devices which have been released over the last couple of years. In particular, ASUS details the VivoWatch will be compatible with the latest smartphones from ASUS, Samsung, LG, Sony HTC and Huawei. The device will connect to android devices over Bluetooth and will sync data using the ASUS HiVivo app
That said, the VivoWatch comes with fitness in mind. As such, there are a number of fitness sensors built-in and includes heart-rate monitoring and sleep tracking features. One of the big selling points of the wearable will be its battery life. Which is claimed to offer up to ten days of usage, off of a single charge. Although, it is debatable whether the device will amass so long without the need to be charged, it should also be pointing out that the charge time is listed as only one to two hours. So either way, it will not take long to reach a fully charged level after depletion. Other than this, the VivoWatch comes with a 128 x 128 resolution display, which is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. Not to mention the device is also IP67 certified for water resistance. The VivoWatch comes with a standard 22mm strap and weighs 50g.
In terms of availability, it seems the device will primarily launch in the UK and will be available from a number of retailers including Amazon UK, WatchShop, Watches of Switzerland and “select” Goldsmiths stores. In terms of price, the ASUS Vivo Watch will launch for £119.99 and should land next month.
