2015 is going to be a bigger year than the last one for wearables, both for smartwatches and fitness trackers, and ASUS doesn’t seem content with just launching the ZenWatch last year which comes powered by Android Wear, it will also be launching a new wearable later on this year called the VivoWatch, which will actually be a fitness tracker that they showed off at Milan Design Week. As one would expect it seems to offer all the standard features you’d find on any number of fitness trackers that are currently on the market, like a pedometer for tracking your steps, as well as how far you’ve walked and how many calories you burnt while doing so.
It also appears that the VivoWatch will track your sleep, and it also features a clock for telling the time as well as an alarm clock, and all tracked data can be synced with the app and web interface that ASUS has reportedly created for use in pairing with the VivoWatch, called ASUS HiVivo and ASUS Healthcare. The HiVivo app as well as the ASUS Healthcare web interface will allow users to see all the synced data, basically visualizing everything that the VivoWwatch is capable of tracking, like steps, sleep, calories burned, and distance traveled like we mentioned above. ASUS also appears to be adding some social and competitive elements into the mix, allowing users to see the data of friends and family as well.
The ASUS VivoWatch will be IP67 certified and will be able to withstand submersion up to 1 meter, which means users can wear it while swimming without worrying they’ll damage the VivoWatch, so long as it doesn’t go below the recommended depth limit. For those interested in keeping track of the heart rate, the VivoWatch will come with a heart rate sensor on the back, and as far as interacting with the VivoWatch itself, this can be done with the button on the side of the fitness tracker as well as with the touchscreen interface that ASUS is integrating. Much like the ASUS ZenWatch, the VivoWatch comes with a glass face and an aluminum casing, but instead of a leather band it comes with a rubberized band instead, which makes sense given that this is a fitness tracker and not a smartwatch. It’s also reportedly coming equipped with a sensor to manage the brightness of the display, and it’s said to boast a battery life of up to 10 days, which of course can and will probably vary based on personal use.
