Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S4 on AT&T are sure going to be happy today as their devices are officially receiving Android 5.0.1 Lollipop today. AT&T made the announcement this morning on their website. In order to download the update, you will have to be connected to Wi-Fi and then go to Settings. Once there, you will want to go to the ‘More’ tab and tap ‘About device.’ Then tap the ‘Software update’ button and ‘Check for updates’, which will allow you to check if the update is available for your device yet.
If you receive the Lollipop update on your device you can download and install it. Fair warning though, Lollipop updates are not small updates and this one is no different with the update coming in at 947MB. This is more than likely why AT&T is requiring users to be connected to Wi-Fi before they are able to download the update. AT&T surely doesn’t want a bunch of angry customers who go over their data cap downloading an update. With the Android Lollipop update comes some pretty great additions and features. Some of Samsung’s UI look and feel will be improved, animations across the device will be significantly smoother and more fluid, and there will be more Lollipop colors all over the interface. New features will include Priority Mode, Smart Lock, as well as a host of battery saving and additional security features. It is also worth noting that Quick Settings will now include the most frequently used settings.
AT&T was also nice enough to remove some bloatware apps from the Galaxy S4 with this update. After you update your device to Lollipop you will notice that the following apps are gone from your device. Code Scanner, Browser Bar, and Softcard apps will all be gone. The Lollipop update will bring the AT&T Galaxy S4 up to version LRX22C.1337UCUGOC3. If you have a more recent Android device on AT&T that has not been updated to Android Lollipop yet, then keep an eye out today. AT&T seems to be on a little update rollout today. As they are also reported to be rolling out Lollipop to the HTC One M8 today as well.
