It never rains, but it pours. This is likely what owners of the LG G2 might be thinking right about now. Carrier-variant owners of the LG G2 have been waiting for their Lollipop update to land for some time. Not to mention, the G2’s seemed to have been eclipsed by the preference of Lollipop rolling out for their successor device, the LG G3. For instance, on T-Mobile, it was the beginning of April when the Un-carrier began their rollout to the LG G3, this was in spite of them both entering a ‘carrier testing’ phase at the same time. Then today, finally came the news that T-Mobile were beginning their roll out of Lollipop to the LG G2.
Well, strangely, it also seems that today is the day that AT&T have decided to begin their rollout of Android Lollipop to the LG G2. Like, T-Mobile, AT&T’s product support page (source link below) states that the OTA will commence rolling out from today to the LG G2 (D800 model). However, unlike T-Mobile, whose update brought their devices to Android 5.0.2, AT&T’s update is listed as bringing their LG G2 up to Android 5.0.1. That said, unlike T-mobile’s update information, AT&T are providing a couple of details worth noting.
According to the update information, besides the fact that the device will be updated to Android 5.0.1, users can expect a couple of changes. One of those changes will be the removal of the “Browser Bar and Famigo”. Likewise, the update information also states that the AT&T Code Scanner and Beats Music are also being removed with the update. The build number for the update is D80020y and the update comes in at roughly 721MB. Like the T-Mobile update, AT&T’s one will also be a staggered update. As such, it does not necessarily mean that it will arrive for your device today. However, chances are you will see it soon enough. If you want to check if your update is there, then head to your settings menu, then to “General”, “About Phone”, “Software Update” and finally “Update Now”. Of course, if you are the owner of an LG G2 on Verizon, then you are probably quite happy now as your roll out commenced a couple of weeks ago.
