LG unveiled its more premium looking – read that as more expensive – smartwatch at the 2015 MWC. They named it the LG Watch Urbane and while it was available last week in the Google Store in the US, it is now available at the Canadian Google Store as well. Watch Urbane is LG’s second rounded smartwatch – remember the LG G Watch R – but this is the first one to make it to Canada. It is an Android Wear 5.1 powered smartwatch, is a higher grade stainless steel, comes in silver or gold and a higher quality leather band and will cost you $399 CAD, however, if you do order one, you will get the message “Leaves warehouse in 2 – 3 weeks.”
Both watches cost the same amount, but if you choose the silver color, they will automatically pair it up with a black leather band and if you decide you like the gold, then you will get a brown leather strap. The bands are the standard 22mm size so you can easily replace them. Inside the LG Watch Urbane, you will get yourself a 1.3-inch P-OLED display with a 320 x 320 resolution with 245 pixels-per-inch (PPI) which will work great when reading those pop-up notification cards. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 clocked at 1.2GHz with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. It has a heart rate sensor, is IP67 certified dust and water-resistant and uses Gorilla Glass 3 to protect against bumps and scratches. It has built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and a 410mAh battery provides the power you need.
The LG Watch Urbane and the Huawei Watch were certainly one of the most anticipated smartwatch releases of the year…if you don’t count the Apple Watch. LG decided to keep the round configuration that was so successful on the original LG G Watch R, only without the rugged looking crown with numbers around it. The Watch Urbane is more suited for the office, a formal affair or maybe with the older customers. The price is slightly higher, but you will receive a higher-grade stainless steel and better grade leather band – all adding up to a more formal and expensive look. It will be the first Android Wear device to run the new 5.1.
