Meizu is building upon their success last year, the company has managed to sell 2 million smartphones last month. This is a significant boost for this China-based smartphone OEM considering that they were selling roughly 1 million devices per month at the end of last year. Meizu wants not only to keep selling 2 million smartphones per month, but build upon it and sell even more by the end of the year. This China-based company will certainly release far more devices this year compared to 2014, but it remains to be seen what besides smartphones will they showcase.
Speaking of non-smartphone devices, an interesting leak surfaced in China. If you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll see a Meizu-branded box. A box, what is so interesting about that? Well, this seems to be a retail packaging of Meizu’s upcoming product, not a smartphone though. The second image shows the inside of the box itself, and it seems like Meizu intends to release a pair of headphones on April 8th. This makes all the sense in the world because some of Meizu’s competitors in China have already released such products, like Xiaomi for example.
We don’t have any additional information about these headphones at the moment, but AKG is quite probably the company which will manufacture them. Meizu has partnered up with AKG a while back, and these headphones seem a logical next step in that partnership. It remains to be seen what other smart gadgets / accessories will Meizu announce this year. Alibaba actually invested $500 million in this China-based company earlier this year and that will certainly help them achieve some of their goals. Meizu is also expected to release a number of smartphones by the end of the year, and the company’s first tablet and smartwatch were also rumored a while back.
There you have it folks, you can expect Meizu to showcase a new pair of headphones soon, perhaps even during their April 8th event, who knows. For those of you who don’t know this, Meizu actually started off as an MP3 player manufacturer. Anyhow, stay tuned, we’ll let you know as soon as we get some additional info.
