LG’s latest flagship smartphone is official as they just announced the device this morning at a live event in New York, and according to LG it will be starting its global roll out tomorrow, April 29th in Korea, with other regions to follow in the month ahead. Although LG didn’t mention any specific launch dates for the LG G4 in any other regions but their own, they did mention that each country where they plan to launch the device will be making those details public locally via the carriers that will be selling the device. So far here in the U.S., all four major carriers which includes T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, Sprint and finally AT&T have confirmed to be selling it with a general launch time frame of somewhere between late May and early June.
The LG G4 will be boasting many improved hardware specifications over last year’s LG G3, like a 5.5-inch Quad HD Quantum IPS display, the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor, and a 3,000mAh battery. It also has a stronger focus on higher quality images, and although it only jumps up from a 13MP camera to a 16MP camera on the back compared to the LG G3, the use of the improved laser auto-focus and f1.8 aperture for better images in low-light conditions, as well as the inclusion of the all new ‘Manual Mode’ should make for some really great shots.
LG has also tweaked the design with the LG G4 to bring a slight curvature that follows around the edge entire body which they call a “slim arc,” which LG claims will give the phone a better grip and more comfortable feel. This paired with the specially treated genuine leather for the back plates should make the device quite interesting to hold. The question for many consumers, especially those who are currently using the LG G3 as their main device and daily driver, is whether or not the LG G4 is worthy of an upgrade.
