Official Xiaomi Mi 4i Camera Samples Surface Following Announcement

This morning, Xiaomi took the wraps off of a brand new smartphone, the Mi 4i. Which is a 5-inch smartphone, with a 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset powering the device, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage along with a 13MP camera. Which will be priced at just $205. However, it’s for India and won’t be making its way Stateside, but we knew that. Now that the event is over, we are starting to get a glimpse of what that 13-megapixel camera can really do. We have a few sample shots from that camera at the bottom of this post. Feel free to take a look at them.

The Xiaomi Mi 4i seems like a pretty capable smartphone and at that price point it’s hard to go wrong with the Mi 4i. Some of its competitors include the Moto G and Moto E. Xiaomi will be selling the Mi 4i at Snapdeal, Amazon, Flipkart, Airtel and Mobile Store. Xiaomi will be making the device available next month in other parts of Asia as well, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

On stage today at the event in India, Hugo Barra, who used to be a Googler and is now a SVP for Xiaomi, stated that the Mi 4i has the best HDR in any smartphone camera right now. He also pointed out that Xiaomi has added automatic gamma and contrast tuning, color correction and low-light de-noising enhancements to make out even more detail in HDR shots. To put in words that normal people understand, this camera is supposed to be amazing. But is it really amazing? Well we have just two shots down below. Hard to really tell from those, but they do look quite good. The real question is going to be how fast does it take the picture. We’ve seen some great cameras – the Motorola Droid Turbo for one – that take a bit to actually take the picture. Then there are cameras like the HTC One M9 and Galaxy S6 which have really fast shutters. If Xiaomi has a pretty decent shutter speed on the Mi 4i, it might just be an amazing camera.
