Xiaomi Mi 4i Is Now Official; 5" 1080p Display, Polycarbonate Body And A 13MP Camera In Tow

Xiaomi had announced that they’ll hold an event in India on April 23rd a while back. Since then, we’ve seen quite a few leaks and official teasers by the company. Xiaomi has been teasing a ‘different flagship’ and a ‘global smartphone’ via a number of quite cryptic teasers. Several leaks said that the device will be called the Mi 4i and that it will sport mid-range specifications in the end. Well, let’s just say that the leaks weren’t that far from the truth considering that the company has just announced the aforementioned handset at their event in India.

So, what is the Mi 4i? Well, it’s a mid-range smartphone similar to the Mi 4 when it comes to looks, but made out of different materials. Unlike the Mi 4, the Mi 4i is made out of polycarbonate and it’s quite colorful. The device will be available in a range of color options, similar to the iPhone 5C, Meizu M1 Note and Meizu M1. Xiaomi has also mentioned that the ‘i’ in its name actually stands for India considering that it’s inspired by that country and culture. The company did mention that the device will launch in India first, but it’s possible that other markets will follow, even though that part wasn’t mentioned thus far.

The Xiaomi Mi 4i features a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) Sharp / JDI fully laminated display and will ship with a 3,120mAh battery (Quick Charge included). This handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 64-bit octa-core processor which ships with an Adreno 405 GPU for graphics. On the back of this device you’ll find a 13-megapixel camera (f/2.0 aperture) along with a dual-LED, dual tone flash. The 5-megapixel snapper will be available on the front side of this device. The Xiaomi Mi 4i will ship with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. This handset comes in a body which is 7.8mm thick and the device itself weighs 130 grams.

The Xiaomi Mi 4i will be available in 5 color options: Black, White, Orange, Light Blue and Pink. This China-based company will launch this device in India on April 30th and it will cost Rs. 12.999 ($205). Registrations for the sale will begin at 8PM later today (India time). The Xiaomi Mi 4i will be available through Snapdeal, Amazon, Flipkart, Airtel and Mobile Store. The company has also revealed that the handset will be available for purchase in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia in May.
