Xiaomi has announced a slew of products at the company’s fifth anniversary event yesterday. We did expect some hardware to be announced, but not so many, the company really went all out. One of the devices announced yesterday was the really affordable Redmi 2A handset, the long rumored Leadcore-powered smartphone. This device is 100 Yuan ($16) cheaper (costs 599 Yuan, which comes to $97) than the regular Redmi 2 handset which launched back in January, and consumers in China will be able to get it at an even cheaper price during Xiaomi’s Mi Fan Festival which will be held on April 8th.
Well, the first benchmarks of the Redmi 2A are in, let’s check them out, shall we. This handset has scored 23,351 points, which is actually better than the Redmi 2, at least in some benchmarks. There are a number of screenshots in the gallery down below for you to check out, offering all sorts of details about the device itself and benchmark results. This is not a bad result by this device, but we all know that solid benchmark results don’t have to mean a solid real life performance, so we’ll save our judgment for now. This handset seems interesting though, it’s really hard to beat this price, especially considering a relatively solid spec sheet.
Speaking of specs, the Redmi 2A is powered by Leadcore’s L1860C processor (Cortex A7 4+1 cores) clocked at 1.5GHz which ships with a Mali T628MP2 GPU for graphics. The device comes sporting a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS display, comes with 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB of internal storage (eMMC 4.5 flash). 8-megapixel OmniVision camera (5-element lens) is located on the back of this device and a 2,200mAh battery comes built-in here. 2-megapixel snapper is available up front for your selfies and video calls. It’s also great that this device offers 4G LTE connectivity, considering the price of course. Dual SIM support is also available here, in case you’d like to use more than one SIM card. Xiaomi unveiled China Mobile version of the device, supporting TD-LTE bands only. The company did not say if they’ll release any additional versions of this smartphone though.
