Xiaomi has announced a ton of devices this year and a big part of their overall announcements were smartphones. This China-based smartphone OEM has announced the Redmi 2, Mi 4i, 2GB version of Mi 4, Mi Note (3 variations), Mi Note Pro. The last two handsets are actually the company’s new flagships which were unexpectedly announced back in January. Why unexpectedly? Well, Xiaomi’s Mi series of smartphones has been their flagship line for years now, and the last such device was announced in July last year, the Xiaomi Mi 4. This handset is still an extremely powerful smartphone, but the company is expected to announce its successor in the coming months.
We haven’t heard much about the Mi 5, several leaks did pop up a while back though, one of them actually claimed that the Mi 5 might arrive later than expected this year. If this is true, the Mi 5 will launch in late Q3 or perhaps even Q4, if not, we can expect it to arrive in June or July. That being said, the Mi 5’s alleged specifications actually surfaced in China. According to that info, the Mi 5 will feature a 5.2-inch QuadHD (2560 x 1440) display along with 4GB of RAM and various storage options. The rumor also says that the phone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor and that it will ship with a 3,000mAh battery on the inside. The 16-megapixel OIS camera will reportedly be located on the back of Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship and the device is rumored to cost 1,999 Yuan in China.
The Mi 5 will quite probably sport premium build once again, and a fingerprint scanner is also a possibility here. We’ll probably see a ton more rumors and leaks before the Mi 5 actually sees the light of day, but these specs might be accurate. The 5.2-inch display makes sense considering the company has already released the bigger flagships, the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro both of which sport 5.7-inch panels. We cannot confirm any of this, of course, but as time goes by things should become clearer. We’ll report back as soon as some additional info pops up.
