For a lot of android users, today will be Samsung day. That is thanks to the official global launch of their latest galaxy flagship offerings in the form of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. However, in spite of how premium and high-spec these two devices are, they are not the only Samsung devices out there. In fact, they are not the only Samsung devices being launched in the U.S. today. That is thanks to Cricket Wireless who have this morning announced that they are beginning to sell the groupie inspired Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime.
Now to be fair, this is not officially being launched today as the Grand Prime actually launched back in October. However, today’s announcement sees Cricket Wireless become the first carrier in the U.S. to bring the Galaxy Prime to the U.S. It is an interesting day for them to announce the launch of the device with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge grabbing all the headlines. But either way, it is here.
In terms of what’s on offer, the Galaxy Grand Prime comes with a 5.5-inch qHD display along with 960 x 540 resolution. Inside, the Grand Prime comes equipped with 1GB RAM and a quad-core processor (clocking at 1.2GHz). Of course, one of the big selling points for this device is the selfie (or groupfie) focus and as such the device comes with a decent sized 5-megapixel front facing camera. Which is also equipped with an 85 degree wide lens to account for those groupfie shots. The rear camera on offer is a more modest 8-megapixel offering. In terms of memory, the Grand Prime offers 8GB internal storage and also comes equipped with a microSD card slot (up to 64GB) for expandable storage. Additional features on offer include Bluetooth 4.0, 3G, 4G LTE and all powered by a 2,600 mAH battery. In terms of the operating system, this one comes running on Android 4.4 (KitKat). So, all in all, this is a mid-range offering. However, this is a much cheaper device than a lot of the other offerings currently available with the price being touched by Cricket Wireless as $179.99. Which is not bad if you are looking for a cheaper priced, but reliable smartphone. Especially, one which comes with a better front facing camera.
