T-Mobile Q1 2015 Sees 1.8 Million Customer Additions And Lowered Churn Rate

Over the last few weeks, the Q1 figures from the major companies have been rolling in. This also includes the carriers in the U.S. The figures from both AT&T and Verizon have already been made public last week and both seemed to highly focus on their lower churn rates. At least compared to previous quarters. Specifically, in AT&T’s case, they were reporting their “best ever” first quarter churn rate. At the time, T-Mobile had not declared their financial results for the first quarter, although a few days back they did announce that on the 28th both their earning call would take place as well as the releasing of their first quarter figures.

As it is the 28th, this is exactly what has happened this morning as the un-carrier has now released their quarter report. Similar to AT&T and Verizon, T-Mobile are also announcing a “record low” branded churn rate, which is down to 1.3. This is on top of what the company is declaring as 1.8 million total new customers. Not to mention, T-Mobile also is bringing to attention the fact that this is the eighth consecutive quarter the company has seen net additions of 1 million. In terms of this quarter, 1.1 million of the additions represented branded postpaid customers while probably of most interest, is that T-Mobile state one million of the additions were phone customers. This is in stark contrast to what has been recently reported from AT&T and Verizon, who saw most of their additions coming in a non-phone capacity. Of T-Mobile’s 1.1 million, 991,000 were phone net customer additions and were 134,000 mobile broadband net additions.

In terms of hard numbers, T-Mobile have declared that their total revenue for the quarter came in at $7.8 billion which represents a 13.1 percent increase year-on-year. Service revenues came in at $5.8 billion which also saw a 9 percent increase year-on-year. In terms of prepaid, T-mobile announced they realized 73,000 net additions, which does represent fewer than in previous quarters, although, T-Mobile also did see 195,000 prepaid to postpaid migrations in the quarter. In ending, T-Mobile announced that they expect to see profits in the remaining quarters of 2015 as well as the full year result.
