The Latest Android Wear App Update Brings Multi-Watch Support

As we are sure most of you already know, a couple of days ago the Android Wear app received a pretty significant update. This update brought with it the biggest changes that have hit Android Wear yet. But, one new feature that hasn’t really been talked about much is support for multiple Android Wear watches being paired to a single device. While most people will have absolutely no use for this feature, it is a new feature that will appeal to some users, nonetheless.

This new update to the Android Wear app that rolled out to users a couple of days ago, like was mentioned above, is the biggest update to the Android Wear platform to date. Along with multi-watch support, the update also brings with it Wi-Fi support, a new app launcher, always-on display for apps, emoji drawing, and better Google Calendar support. Features aren’t all this update brings though. The updated Android Wear app also comes with a more Material Design inspired UI and icon. While this is all good news, there is a small catch that comes along with all of this. You can’t actually use any of these features just yet. Even after you receive the Android Wear app update you will still have to wait for the actual Android Wear firmware update to hit your watch as well.

That leads us to the second catch pertaining to this Android Wear update, yes seriously. Not all of the Android Wear devices currently on the market will be capable of supporting the biggest change in this update, Wi-Fi support. Google has announced that the first Android Wear device that will be getting the OTA firmware update is the LG Watch Urbane and then it will roll out to other devices in the coming weeks. Devices that will get the update but no Wi-Fi support are the LG G Watch, LG G Watch R, and ASUS ZenWatch. All other Android Wear devices on the market are safe and will be receiving Wi-Fi support with the update.

If you’ve got an Android Wear device and can’t wait for this update, you’re going to have to gain a little patience. Again, the update is going to be hitting all Android Wear devices “in the coming weeks”, so it could be awhile before it hits your particular device. In the meantime, you can check and see if you have the update available for the Android Wear app and enjoy its new UI and icon.
