Slowly but surely, more and more devices are starting to get their hands on the latest version of the Android OS, Android Lollipop. Sony started sending out updates for Android 5.0 just a few days ago, and the updates continue to hit devices across the globe, but today is Verizon’s day, more specifically, Verizon subscribers who are using the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Verizon has started pushing the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop to Galaxy Note 4 owners and that means a big change with lots of new features, like lock screen notifications, more animations throughout the menus, lots of bold new color use and heads up notifications, plus more.
Just a little over the last couple of weeks we saw AT&T bring the same exact update to Galaxy Note 4 owners on their network. Along with the few things mentioned above, users will also notice more liveliness with their touch-based interactions, as well as an updated on/off toggle and an update to the action pop ups. Other new functions include two new camera modes for the photography aficionados, which are slow motion and fast motion, while Verizon has removed “recording mode” from the settings. Lots of other Lollipop features are now present, and users will notice the floating action button should be inserted in most of if not all the Samsung apps installed on the device.
Functionality wise, Verizon is bringing in a feature with the Android 5.0 Lollipop update that users have likely been waiting on for quite some time, Advanced Calling 1.0. Verizon is reportedly activating VoLTE, so now after the update to Lollipop Galaxy Note 4 owners should see the advanced calling 1.0 button whenever they enter the dialer to make a voice call. There will also be a few new changes to the S-Health application with three new widgets, and a less minor tweak to the Google Search widget as it’s now opaque. As of the moment the changelog on Verizon’s page simply states the update is going out, meaning it should be starting today. How many people will get it today or how long it will actually take before it rolls out to all users is unknown, but keep checking your status bar or check manually from the settings to see if the software package is available to download.
